We the people of HINDUSTAN,don't think and feel our motherland as a territory of rock,soil and mud.She seems to us as Goddess MA DURGA. That's why famous writer BANKIM CHATTOPADHYAY had described and compared our motherland as mother DURGA in our national anthem,VANDE MATARAM.He explained in the song--
"TWANG HI DURGA DASHAPRAHARADHARINI,
KAMALADALA SHUBHINI,SUHASHINI"
Means-- Oh my motherland, you are mother DURGA with ten hands ,who is sitting in lotous to kill Mahaishura.
SWAMI VIVEKANANDA ,when he had return from America,he had kneeled down on the soil of airport and he was crying "Ma ma, I was far from you for a long time,I was in Devil's Paradise.I was misguided in the land of materialist people.Please bless me to do my duty as an obedient son of you. "
NETAJEE SUBHASH CHANDRA BOSE,when he was read in fourth standered,every year DURGA PUJA were celebrated with full enthusiasim at their house.During puja period small SUBHASH was searching his mother.
His mother PRABHAWATI DEVI was busy in the temple with the priest for archana of DEVI DURGA.SUBHASH had standed near to mother and observing the customs and tradition of puja.When archana is over ,then his mother had come to him and offered prasadam.But SUBHASH had refused to take prasadam,at that moment ,he said that matri puja is not completed in proper away.Ma DURGA is goddess of SHAKTI(power),she also represents and symbolise our motherland.So we should worship her with our own blood.Suddenly SUBHASH had taken a knife and cut his middle finger,blood was flowing and then small SUBHASH went to DURGA idol,he put TILOK of his own blood in the forehead of DEVI DURGA and kneel down before Her,meditated for a while and then run to his mother for prasadam.That's why that small SUBHASH was able to be a couragious leader of HINDU young blood of freedom movement period of HINDUSTAN.He had introduced Hindustan as an independent country to rest of the world.
Ma DURGA ,a beautyful warrior seated upon a tiger.She went to battle on her ferocious mount lion,armed with the weapons given to her by the other GODS.DURGA is one of the angry and aggressive aspects of the goddess SHAKTI,whose role in HINDU mythology was fight and conquer demons and also personify the SAKTI or femal aspect of any male deity.In the battle,she fought and killed the evil Mahishasura and restored heaven to the Gods.Since then the goddess is invoked for protection from the powers of evil.DURGA puja is observed in her honor,to celebrate her victory over evil.
She has been worshiped from about 400 AD,but probably earlier,to the present.Her literary references are chiefly the RAMAYANA and MAHABHARATA ,epic and puranic texts,and she is mentioned by name in Vadic literature.In general ,DURGA is regarded in northern India as the gentle bride epitomizing family unity, while in southern India she is revered more in her warrior aspect.
Ma DURGA is divine spouse of Lord SHIVA. Her face reflected the light of SHIVA,her ten arms were from Lord VISHNU.Her feet were from Lord Brahma,the tresses were formed from the light of YAMA,the god of death and the two breasts were formed from the light of SOMNATH,the MOON god,the waist from the light of INDRA,the king of gods,the legs and thighs from the light of VARUN,the god of oceans and hips from the light of BHOODEV (Earth),the toes from the light of SURYA(Sun God),fingers of the hand from the light of the VASUS,the children of Goddess river Ganga and nose from the light of KUBER,the keeper of wealth for the Gods.The teeth were formed from the light of AGNI,the Fire God ,the eyebrows from the two Sandhyas,ie,sunrise and sunset,the ears from the light of VAYU,the god of WIND.Thus from the energy of these gods ,as well as from many other gods,was formed the Goddess DURGA.
Goddess Ma DURGA symbolise our motherland.God KARTIK represents defence,power and force of a country.He also represents youth strength of a nation.Lord GANAPATI or BINAYAKA symbolise population and democratic system of a country.Goddess Ma LAXMI represents the economical strength of a country.Goddess SARASWATI is the symbol of education,culture and human resources of a country ,Lord SHIVA symbolise judicial system and strength to take action against enemy of the country.The lion is the symbol of strong past and history of the country.So to worship DURGA is a symbolic worship of once's own mother land.
