This five-day, hands-on course will allow participants to convert an existing ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicle into a full-fledged BEV (battery electric vehicle) under the guidance of an experienced instructor. While the workshop is intended for teachers, EV enthusiasts are welcome to participate. If you want to deepen your understanding of battery and electric drive technology -- applicable to Neighborhood Electric Vehicles, current hybrids and the coming generation of plug-in hybrids -- or if you've ever wanted to perform your own EV conversion, this course is for you! Batteries and electric drive technology are imminent in our automotive future; participants in this workshop will gain skills and knowledge to impart to the students of today. All
participating teachers will receive Act 48 Continuing Education
credits. The course fee of $300 includes the textbook Convert
It!, a
step-by-step hands-on guide to converting a small compact car.
Teachers interested in creating electric vehicle curriculum will
have the opportunity to share and develop classroom activities
implementable in the 2009-10 school year.
