Page Creator is the new, beta tool from Google for easily creating Web pages.

This page is my first experiment with the new Google Page Creator.   -- Bill Struhar

Tools I've Used

I have used numerous Webpage creation tools. My primary tool is Dreamweaver, but I have also tried GoLive and the page creation system in .Mac.  In the early days of the Web I used NetObjects Fusion. I have also tried the "save as HTML" options within Microsoft Office. And I tried the new, open source tool which shows great promise, Nvu.

How Does Google Page Creator Compare?

After my first 20 minutes with Google Page Creator, I am very impressed. It certainly won't replace a powerful, sophisicated tool like Dreamweaver, but it isn't intended to do that.

Who should use Google Page Creator?

I have friends with little or no experience who occasionally ask me to show them how to make  web pages or to recommend a tool to do so. I never had an answer that I could give with any confidence. It is very difficult for someone with no knowledge of basic HTML, no knowledge of how web pages work, to understand web tools. Google Page Creator comes closer to being neophyte-friendly than any tool that I've seen.

As Google Page Creator becomes available to all comers (it is now limited to beta testers), I will be excited to recommend it to friends and see if it is as user-friendly as it seems to be.

How Do I Get Started with Google Page Creator?

Google has opened Page Creator to a limited base of users in order to get feedback and make improvements before opening the system to everyone. You will need a Google ID to use the system, so if you do not already have a Gmail account with an ID, I would suggest you start by getting a Gmail account. After that, go to http://pages.google.com and get on the list of people to be notified when new Page Creator accounts become available.

As they say, try it, you'll like it. Good luck.
