Welcome to the West Stockbridge Public Library
This website is dedicated to the Abraham Lincoln reproduction bust
"Beardless Draped Lincoln" by sculptor Leonard W. Volk
that is on display at our library.
How or when the Town of West Stockbridge came to own this bust is still under research by the West Stockbridge Historical Society. Longtime residents report "it's always been here", and no mention of it being given to the town can be found in old town documents. Though "Abe", as many call him, is the mystery man of West Stockbridge, his presence here is truly a gift.

For many years the bust was displayed in the public rooms of the former West Stockbridge Town Hall at 9 Main Street.
At some point it was moved into the West Stockbridge Library which occupied the ground floor of that building.
The recent move of town offices and the library to the newly renovated former school building at 21 State Line Road brought the bust to its current home.
The bust and pedestal are made of solid, dense plaster.
Upon close inspection you will notice minor bumps and bruises the piece has received over the years, but it is still considered to be in very good condition.
It can be viewed during regular library hours.
