Our literacy program at OES is designed to meet the instructional learning needs of every single first grader. Using data gathered from assessments such as the Development Reading Assessment, Dibels, and our district's Early Literacy Test, we place each student in a small differentiated reading group with other students who are reading at a similar reading level.
Each first grade class receives 40-minute long differentiated instruction on a daily basis. After a brief whole-class mini lesson on a particular reading skill or strategy, students break up into their small groups. These groups are facilitated by myself, my teaching assistant, and the classroom teacher. |
