2009 Doris Gooderson Short Story Competition

Wrekin Writers have launched their 9th Doris Gooderson Short Story Competition, inviting writers to submit short stories of 1200 words or less. There is a small charge of £3 per entry or £5 for two entries. You can enter as many times as you like.

 

First Prize is £80 and Publication

Second Prize is £40 and Publication

Third Prize is £20 and Publication

The entries received last year were of a very high standard and covered a wide variety of subjects and styles. This year Wrekin Writers are hoping to inspire even more people to ‘get started’ with their writing by offering to publish the three best stories in the Wrekin Writers 2009 Anthology.

Rules

  1. Entries must not exceed 1200 words, must be in the form of a Short Story and written in English. Prizes are 1st = £80, 2nd = £40 and 3rd = £20. Further prizes may be awarded at the discretion of the judge.
  2. An entry fee of £3 is required for each entry or £5 for 2 entries. Entries from overseas can only be accepted with an entry fee in sterling.
  3. This entry form can be photocopied if required.
  4. No identifying marks should be on the entry. 
  5. Each story must have a title page containing title, word count and author's name and address.
  6. All entries must be on A4 paper (or foreign equivalent), and double-spaced, typed, and on one side of paper only.
  7. No entries should currently be submitted for any other competition or have been published previously.
  8. Entries failing to meet all of these rules will be disqualified. Fees from disqualified entries will not be returned.
  9. Copyright remains with the author, although winning entries will be published in the Wrekin Writers 2009 Anthology and may be also be published on the Wrekin Writer website.
  10. The judge’s decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into.
  11. Winners will be notified by 30th September 2009.
  12. This competition is open to any one, of any age, from anywhere in the world.
  13. No entries will be returned unless a stamped addressed envelope is enclosed.
  14. No entries will be acknowledged unless a stamped addressed post card is enclosed.
  15. Entries with insufficient postage will NOT be collected from the Post Office, but returned to sender.
  16. Entry indicates an acceptance of these rules.

Postage Warnings!

1. Please note that an A4 envelope requires more than an 'ordinary 1st class stamp. Check the weight and size at your local Post office or online. WE WILL NOT PAY ANY SURCHARGES TO COLLECT INSUFFICIENTLY PAID ENTRIES.
