2024 OSM Open Street Maps and/or Open Sea Marks is not working properly.

If you have problems with OpenSeaMarks with all the boys, this can be fixed.

In the file .../Android/data/com.jawosoft.rak.wptView/files/TileServers.txt
change the line that starts with o|osm_seamarks, using some text-editor.
The last part of the line is probably http://t1.openseamap.org/seamark/{z}/{x}/{y}.png
Substitude with  https://tiles.openseamap.org/seamark/{z}/{x}/{y}.png

Save the modified file TileServers.txt .

wptView has not changed since 2017 AND CAN NOT BE INSTALLED ON ANDROID 14.

What is it

WptView is an Android app, to view waypoints on Augmented Reality and Maps.

Map tiles are stored for offline usage.

The internal GPS, Compass and Gravity-sensors are used to display your location and orientation. 

What does it do for you

When you are sailing, cycling, hiking or walking somewhere in a city, you want to know where you are and where you should be heading for.

This app combines maps, compass and camera to 1 integrated tool.

On maps you can see your current position and track of the last time period.

And you do not even have to be online!

There are lots of different maps supported, mostly from Open Street Maps and comparable contributors, but also satellite views are supported. You can zoom in and out from zoom level 0 (the world in 1 image of size 256x256 pixels), up to level 19 where you may spot your house, backyard or car.

Using the camera, you may spot the highlights of your surroundings, and the waypoints are projected on the camera image. So you can look through the camera the interesting “object”, while wptView adds the characteristics as distance, bearing and name of the “object”. Objects are called waypoints. 

Each collection of waypoints are stored in in a waypoints file, and can be displayed in a table, the map or the camera view

The waypoints can be buoys in the water, tops of the mountains, shops in the city, etc. etc.
