  1. Rules:
    1. Racing will be governed by the 2009-2012 Racing Rules of Sailing
    2. All sailors must wear life jackets while racing

  1. Eligibility and Entry;
    1. Competitors must “check in” with the race committee before the 6:00 start by hailing your skippers name and the sail number of your boat. No competitor will be scored if they start three minutes after the official start of the first race. They can check in and be scored for the next race, receiving a DNS for the first race.
    2. Must be a paid up member of a GSBYRA club in order to race. You must be a WPSA member in good standing in order to be eligible for a prize.
    3. Boats can be monohull or multihull except Sunfish
    4. Handicap rating of each boat will be determined by the Portsmouth rating D-PN for the class of boat. A partial list of common boats is listed in the 2009 GSBYRA handbook pages 89-91.  If your boat is not listed the Fleet Captain will assign a rating.
    5. A class of 3 or more boats that have sailed in at least 50% of the races may request separate scoring and separate trophies will be awarded.
  2. Race Management and Scoring:
    1. The low point system will be used.  One throw out will be allowed for every five races completed in the series.
    2. Three minute dinghy starts will be used
    3. The race committee will schedule back to back races. The next start will begin as soon as the last boat has crossed the finish line.
    4. The race committee will hold as many starts as they can before sundown
    5. The races will start at 6:00 PM
    6. Any boat retiring from the racing should endeavor to hail the race committee to let them know that they are retiring.
    7. Penalty: a 360 turn shall serve as a penalty.
    8. The start/Finish line will not serve as an obstruction.
    9. Protests must be hailed to the RC as soon as you finish the race during which the foul occurred.
    10. If the race committee has determined that a boat has clearly established its place as last, they reserve the right to hail that boat to abandon the current race, and come to the start area for the next race.
  3. Racing area will be to the west of Brown’s River. All competitors must be aware of commercial ferry traffic at the entrance of Browns River and must yield right of way to any commercial traffic.
  4. It is the skipper’s responsibility to determine if he/she wants to race. If the skipper is unsure if they or their boat can handle the weather conditions they must make their own decision separate from any decision that the RC makes on whether to hold the race.
