As Christians we believe that God (the Father, Son and Holy Spirit) loves all people, having created us in order to be in a loving relationship with him. Following a break down in this relationship caused by people turning their backs on him, out of this love for us God sent his son (Jesus) to provide the way back into this relationship. Because of this same love Jesus died on the cross on our behalf, his then going on to defeat 'death' when he was raised to life again. His victory over death gives us all the opportunity to be with God and each other for ever.
We believe that the Holy Spirit gave us the Bible (through it's human authors) in order to let us know about both this problem of the broken relationship with God as well as the solution to the problem. As Christians we believe that, rather than keeping this 'good news' to ourselves, we should share it with others. If people go on to believe this good news and respond to it by asking God if they can come back into a relationship with him (through Jesus), our practice is to then baptise them in water. This is done in the same way that Jesus was baptised (i.e. full immersion) and in obedience to what he told his followers to do. As people come up out of the waters of Baptism they are entering into a new life in God's family.
