There are some great ways to jump start your creativity.  It's not hard to get stuck in life, and this applies to art as well.  It sometimes takes a while to realize you're going form the motions.  Assuming you've been painting for a while, there's probably a certain genre you enjoy painting in: landscapes, animals, houses, portraits, sea etc. It's actually a good thing, because it can help you build your business reputation and identity as an artist with a "niche".

However, from a purely artistic point of view, it's easy to find yourself painting on autopilot, and this eventually leads to sub-par work. The following are some great tips to get your creative juices flowing.

Ask Questions

Start out with the "What If" questions.  Have you wondered "what if" you couldn't see color? Would it be possible to make a painting?

"What if" you were taller, or shorter; would you approach painting any differently? If you're painting a vase, "what if" you break it before you paint?  Changing your approach can yield some surprising and interesting results.

I think you can see there are a lot of options you can arrive it if you allow yourself to ask questions.  The process can help you to become interested in your own work once again.  Here's something to think about!  People are often more attracted to your work it it's familiar--and at the same time teases their brain a bit. And, no matter how much you enjoy the spiritual experience of painting, if you're making a living from the fruits of your creativity, people are going to have to find your work interesting for them to buy it.

Find Inspiration

Whether writing or sitting down to create a work of art, it’s not at all uncommon to end up staring at a blank piece of paper or a blank canvas. Getting a good idea of what other people have done, either having succeeded or failed, is a good way to get the creative fiat going.

I often find myself looking at books, newspapers, magazines, journal, the internet, and before long I usually have more ideas than I know what to do with.  However, there are other ways to be inspired enough to get you moving in the right direction.

Try Relaxing

Yes, taking a short break from the task and doing something that makes you happy and relaxed can “center” you. I usually meditate for a few moment, or I’ll take a short walk at other times.  Writing in a diary often works well for others.  The key is to take your mind off the immediate task and to energize yourself by doing something rewarding.

Be thankful for all the good things in life

Thinking about positive things is a sure way to produce good energy flow and a positive vibration.  The feeling of love and gratitude for the blessings of life can make you instantly feel warm and fuzzy inside.  This makes you open to creativity.
