1. Read the section your group was assigned in the textbook.
2. Do a little preliminary internet research. Wikipedia is fine for this. Questions? See Ms. Wilson's Wikipedia Policy.
For Tuesday, 2/3:
1. Read up to p. 197 in textbook (up to "Islamic Civilization"). Take notes, as usual.
2. Who had the most destructive influence on the Abbasid caliphs: the Seljuk Turks, the Christians, or the Mongols? Why? Write 3-4 sentences explaining your answer. For Monday, 2/2:
Read up to p. 195 in textbook (up to "The Seljuk Turks"). For Wednesday, 1/28: Write a 1-page double-spaced journal entry on the handout. Questions to get you started:
- Did this reading correct any misconceptions you had about Islam?
- Are the actions of al-Qaeda compatible with Islam? If not, why do they act in the name of Islam?
- Why is jihad a part of Islam?
For Tuesday, 1/27:
Read handout on Islam and terrorism, and circle key terms and words you don't understand.
For Monday, 1/26: Read 187-191, up to "The Arab Empire and its Successors," and take notes. |
