ArtRage One of the best paint programs ever. Emulates actual paint, lets you turn photos into paintings, lets you sketch over photos. Free version is wonderful. $25 buys you the deluxe version which is worth it!
Tux Paint Like KidPix, but no cost! Earlier versions would not save images in any usable format. Newer versions are working on that.
GIMP Like Photoshop, with the extra added benefit of being free!
Pencil Easy, fun animation tool-- much like flipbooks were back in the day.
