Dangers of gutter screening 

• Allow pine needles, maple seeds, and small stems in (Great for composting)
  
• What doesn't get in just collects on top of the screens (Destroys roof and can lead to heavy ice build-up)
  
• Once the screens are covered, the birds move in
• Bees also love this nice covered environment
  
•  Make gutters harder to clean (Clean off screen, remove screen, clean gutter, re-install screen)
• Screens and covers with extra fine mesh keep everything out of your gutter ---Including water
• Solid plastic covers with a small slit for the water to get in make great bird houses.
  

Note:  There are some houses where some sort of gutter protection would not be a bad idea, however, they  need to  be  checked at least once a year.  Don't ever assume that you'll never have to clean your gutters again. The longer they go unchecked - the bigger the mess. 

Screens and covers available at the big box stores only provide a false sense of security!!
