We all have moments each day when we enjoy simply being alive, yet we fail to savour the fullness of this ordinary delight. We notice an apparent conflict between our innate ability to love and the suffering, confusion, and materialism in the world. To understand this experience more clearly, it helps to uncover the natural wisdom and compassion of our heart. Enlightened society is not a utopia or myth. It is the fundamental insight that secular and spiritual aspects of life are never separate from each other. That insight is cultivated every day through the practice of mindfulness and awareness, whereby we tame our wild minds and open our hearts.
