Music Theory (age 12 and older; ability to read music is required) Listening to music makes a lot more sense when you know what a particular musical texture consists of! Find out what “ingredients” compose pieces that you are currently working on. Come and learn about scales, modes, chords, intervals, patterns, and other important musical elements! Music Theater (all ages) Do you know what it takes to produce a Broadway show? Come and learn about how music theater functions, how many departments are involved in the musical theater process, and participate in a mock Broadway production of a mini-musical! Chamber Ensemble (age 10 and older; at least one year of playing experience is required) Individual practicing is very important for your performance improvement; however, playing in a group differs significantly from playing alone! Come and join a chamber ensemble for two weeks of collaborative performance fun! Video Review/Discussion Groups (all ages) What should you pay attention to when you watch a music video? What lessons can you learn through observation? Come and watch films of world-famous performers and discuss them with experienced mentors! Elementary Group Conducting (ages 12 and older; ability to read music is required) “What does a conductor do?” – “Conductors usuallly just stand there looking good.” Sooner or later, we all need to play in a large ensemble… Why do we like one conductor while we cannot stand another? What on earth do the best conductors want from their performers?! Come and learn how to better understand conducting gestures and what they mean through hands-on experience! “Kitchen Band” – The Toy Symphony Orchestra (ages 5-10) Even if you are just a beginner with little or no performance experience, there is an orchestra for you! Come and improve your rhythm and ensemble playing skills through making music on anything that makes sound – don't forget to grab a couple of your mother’s frying pans! Orchestral Excerpts Preparation (ages 12 and older; at elast three years of playing experience is required) Advanced students have an opportunity to receive professional guidence in preparation for orchestral auditions – it never hurts to start early!
