The women's hockey team defeated Neumann in the ECAC West Quarterfinal round by a 3-0 final in their first ever home playoff game. Kelly Collins, Melissa Seamont, and Megan Howe tallied goals for the Lakers while Bridget Smith made 18 saves for the shutout. The Lakers will travel to RIT to take on Plattsburgh next Saturday. At 4:00, the men's basketball team captured their first SUNYAC championship since 1965 with a 66-57 win over Cortland at Max Ziel Gymansium. Hayden Ward led the team with 24 points and 13 rebounds while Burridge collected tournament MVP with 18 points in the game and 7 rebounds. The Lakers will wait to see who their first opponent in the NCAA Tournament will be; they'll know on Monday. Finally, it was the men's hockey team with an 8-3 victory over Fredonia in the SUNYAC semifinal. Ian Boots and Paul Rodrigues each scored a pair of goals. Jon Whitelaw added a goal and assist, extending his point streak to 12 games. Fredonia's leading scorer Bryan Ross scored the game's first goal on a penalty shot, but the Lakers netted the next six. Andrew Hare got the win making 17 saves. The Lakers will host rival Plattsburgh for the SUNYAC Championship next Saturday night. |
