Peer Mediation

Peer Mediators are trained in the process of conflict resolution and

mediating conflicts amongst peers.

Peer conflicts include:

  • friendship challenges
  • honesty
  • rumor/gossip
  • teasing
  • missing item, etc.

Peer Mediators will learn new ways to handle conflicts and disagreements.  They will hold a peer meditation for students by appointment (and teacher approval) during Peer Mediation hours which is Tuesday through Thursday during lunch or recess time.  A mediation occurs when trained peer mediators sit down with two students who have a friendship problems and help them come to a solution. The mediators are not there to judge or prove one student wrong or right, but are simply there to help both students work together to create a tangible solution.  Students enjoy the opportunity to work through their challenges with students their own age and utilize the mediation contract as a reminder of the solutions they made together.
