Group Counseling

Small group counseling gives me the opportunity to work with smaller groupings of students on specific skills and addressing specific topics.  In group we utilize conversations, games, movies, and varied techniques to learn new skills and increase the effectiveness of old skills.

Groups offered this year include:

  • Family Changes: A group for students whose parents are in the midst of or have recently had a divorce or separation.
  • Bulldog Pals: Friendship groups focused on peer interaction and learning to be a good friend to others.
  • Uniquely Me: Self-esteem and acceptance group focused on the celebration of students uniqueness and the power of confidence in self.
  • Chill Out: Anger management group focused on teaching skills to help students deal with frustration and anger.
  • Student Ambassadors: Student host who serve as representatives of the student body and are equipped on ways to be an example and leader at Mitchell
  • Peer Mediators: Students trained to deal with Conflict resolution who work alongside their peers to help resolve simple disputes
Group offerings vary by grade level and normally consist of 3-7 students within the same grade level.  Groups begin in September and January of each school year.  Student Ambassadors and Peer Mediators are selected by Mitchell Staff.
