Undergraduates make major contributions to research programs in the Wise Lab. We are looking for students interested in learning, through hands-on experience, about ecological research. Students usually start by volunteering on a project. If the research is appealing to them, and if the student has the necessary academic background, displays initiative and shows promise of being able to work independently, this volunteer work may evolve into a specific project --- for example, either a BIOS 199, BIOS 399 or Honors Capstone Project. Sometimes we also have funds available for paid internships during the summer, or part-time work during the academic year. We have a variety of projects suitable for undergraduate research assistants – some are suitable for those only with a keen interest but little science background, others require some appropriate coursework in the sciences and upperclass standing. Below is a listing of current research projects with the name of the postdoctoral research fellow or graduate student conducting the research. Click on the appropriate project to learn more about it, and what type of openings for assistants might be available. Please contact the research leader directly to inquire about the possibility of joining the project. Research areas Arthropod community ecology J.
