Parrots That Inspire Me - Video

Thank you for visiting Wings Over The Rainbow. On our site you will find our stories, photographs, contact information and more. Wings Over The Rainbow is a full Service/Supplier with all of our birds in house. 100 % of proceeds are returned to the organization for the cost of housing and daily care of our adoptable and sanctuary birds.

We do not use any bird for purposeful breeding.  Although we will not break up breeders that are placed with us, they will not be set up with nest boxes or adopted out as breeders. These birds are like humans and form strong bonds that last a lifetime. Sometimes other birds in our care will pair off together, and will not be separated. We pride ourselves in doing what is right for our birds and what will keep them healthy at any cost. Previous breeders are cared for like all other birds.

Prior to their placement at our rescue and sanctuary some breeders have killed their mates or have hurt other birds due to abuse and/or psychological reasons. These birds have the right to a happy, healthy life just like any other bird. We keep them safe from themselves and other birds and work with them so they can live out their lives in a safe and loving atmosphere. As we grow, we will try to put them in indoor/outdoor habitats that promote their quality of life. Breeding pairs are observed carefully to ensure babies are not produced.

One of Deb's favorite stories is about Canadian Geese. Did you know that Canadian Geese stays with their mate for life? Yes, it is true. Their mating habits are similar to many bird species. Once they have found their mate, couple with them, and produce a family, they never go to another goose. Did you also know that these birds fly in the infamous “V” pattern that we are all used to seeing? Have you ever noticed that when you watch these magnificent birds fly overhead that on some occasions you will see an empty spot in the “V” formation? This is because they always have their place in the formation and since they mate for life, each couple flies one in front of the other in the formation. If one of them is injured, or worse, killed, then that spot is forever left open until the rest of the flock have also gone away.

Petey and Polly

We also house and work with handicapped birds. We have taken in many babies that were handicapped at hatching or due to an injury. These babies are weaned and placed free of charge with good parents who learn to love and care for them, with our help. We will never place an un-weaned baby with adoptive parents. We do help people place their birds for a nominal fee at Wings Over the Rainbow.

We will not turn away any bird. Birds placed with us are rehabilitated as needed and placed in loving homes. Many people do not understand that these birds can live to be 50 - 100 years old!

Baby Grey and Baby Cockatiel

We are here to help them, no matter what it takes. We believe birds are not bad, they just end up with undereducated owners who do not understand the proper care of these beautiful creatures of nature. We also believe we must give back to one of God's greatest creatures.

Deb gives 24/7 care to her birds. This is her ministry from the Lord. She does not want to turn away any bird that needs a place to live. Deb has spent 25 years of her life fighting for this important cause in providing a safe haven for healthy birds as well as the physically and psychologically damaged birds. Through prayer the Lord has provided all of her needs to continue the operation of Wings Over the Rainbow.  Please help Wings Over the Rainbow in any way you can. If everyone that visits our web site would donate even $1.00 this would certainly help us keep our mission alive to save these amazing jewels of nature.

Deb's ultimate goal is to build a large sanctuary on a minimum of five acres of land. There would be a quarantine area for ill birds with in-house veterinarian care, habitats with free flight areas necessary for their health and well-being of African Greys, Macaws, and other birds. There would be a garden area where people can come and sit and enjoy the birds. Deb would also like to have an Education Center at the sanctuary. The Center would also be a place where children and adults could learn about caring for their birds. The Center would also provide weekend classes and seminars of various topics for those interested in learning the proper care of exotic birds.

We have volunteers who have indicated they will help us build a new large sanctuary when we have the land.  IF there is anyone out there that has land or knows someone who does have land to donate or that will sell land to us at a reasonable cost, PLEASE contact us. We are in desperate need of a larger facility as our bird population increases daily.

If you are in town, stop by and see us. Our feathered friends love to see nice friendly faces.
