Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce

Originally organized in Wilmington in 1853, the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce was incorporated in 1866 by an act of the North Carolina General Assembly. At that time, Wilmington business leaders appreciated the potential of North Carolina’s largest city and sought to lend guidance to the economic direction of the bustling port. While the Civil War and North Carolina’s secession from the Union delayed the original Chamber’s work, the eventual chartering in 1866 gave Wilmington’s organization the distinction of being the first Chamber of Commerce in the state of North Carolina.

Despite governmental chartering, it is not a governmental entity. Instead, the Chamber has a long tradition of activity in North Carolina as a membership-based, nonprofit organization of diverse membership. Members and volunteers share a single goal of improving the economy and enhancing the overall quality of life in our community by harnessing the collective vision and power of local business.

A 39-member Board of Directors oversees policy-making for a membership of more than 1,700 companies. Member companies typically commit more than 700 volunteers annually to work on various projects throughout the year. The efforts of the Board and members are supported by a 12-member professional staff located on the banks of the Cape Fear River in downtown Wilmington. Focus areas include Education, Governmental Affairs, Infrastructure, Environment, Member Services, and Membership.  http://wilmingtonchamber.org

Southport - Oak Island Chamber of Commerce
The Southport-Oak Island North Carolina Area Chamber of Commerce invites you to visit our North Carolina beaches, tucked away on the southeastern coast of the Brunswick Islands, offering both the vacationer, resident and investor a pleasant coastal experience. Our community is comprised of six municipalities -- the towns of Caswell Beach, Oak Island (Long Beach and Yaupon Beach) and the Village of Bald Head Island combine for over 28 miles of sandy beaches and some of the most visible lighthouses in North Carolina. For over 200 years the historic coastal community of Southport has guarded the mouth of the Cape Fear River and continues to be the lightkeeper of its history. Boiling Spring Lakes, one of the fastest growing cities in our area, takes its name from the over 50 bubbling spring lakes. The newly incorporated Town of St. James lies along the Intracoastal Waterway and marsh land. http://southport-oakisland.com/

Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce

The Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce is a membership driven organization, striving to enhance the quality of Brunswick County by providing leadership through strengthening and promoting business, industry and tourism. In 1976, the Chamber was established as the South Brunswick Islands Chamber of Commerce and had 38 charter members. Helen Pope, wife of one of the charter members, coined the phrase “South Brunswick Islands”. With the goal of better serving the growing membership, the Chamber’s Board of Directors voted to change the name to the Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce in 2002. So if you're looking for information on Calabash, Sunset Beach, Ocean Isle Beach, Shallotte, Holden Beach or other areas of Brunswick County we can provide that information.
