Algebra III

 Unit 1:  Prerequisites Unit
This unit's topics include solving various types of equations and inequalities.  We will solve linear, polynomial, absolute value, and radical equations and inequalities.  Students will represent their solutions graphically and using interval notation.

Unit 2:  Systems and Linear Programming
This unit's topics include solving systems of 2 or 3 equations by graphing, substitution, and elimination.  We will also graph systems of inequalities and solve linear programming problems.

Unit 3:  Matrices
This unit's topics include operations with matrices, solving systems with matrices, and using matrices to code or decode messages.  We will perform operations with and without calculators.

Unit 4:  Functions
This unit's topics include graphing transformations of the following parent functions: quadratics, cubics, absolute value, square root, and step.  Students will be able to describe many aspects of the function including domain and range.  Student will also be able to give intervals of increase and decrease and determine if the function is an odd or even function.

Unit 5:  Polynomials
This unit's topics include describing graphs(end behavior, extrema, zeros), finding zeros using synthetic division and graphing calculators, and find all zeros (real and imaginary).

Unit 6:  Exponential Unit
This unit's topics include simplifying problems using rules of exponents, simplifying problems involving rational exponents and radicals, graphing exponential functions, solving real-world problems involving growth or decay, and solving compound and continuously compounded problems.

Unit 7:  Log Unit
This unit's topics include solving for exponents using like bases, converting between exponential and log form, using properties of logs to simply expressions or solve equations.  Students will also solve equations with unlike bases, solve word problems involving logs and natural logs.  They will use compound interest and continuous interest formulas.

Unit 8:  Right Triangle Trig, Unit Circle, and Law of Sines/Cosines
This unit's topics include special right triangle ratios, finding the trig ratios for any right triangle, finding any missing sides or angles of a right triangle using trig ratios, and solving word problems using trig ratios.  Students will apply this knowledge to the unit circle and find all six trig ratios for any given angle or radian.  They will also convert between angles and radians.  Finally, students will apply the law of sines or cosines to find missing information of triangles that are not right triangles.

Unit 9:  Graphing Trig Functions
This unit covers graphing all transformations of the trig functions and giving the domain and range.

Unit 10:  Sequences and Series
This unit's topics include finding the nth term of a arithmetic or geometric sequence, writing an explicit formula to find missing terms, finding the position of  a given term, and finding the sum of the terms in a sequence.

TENTATIVE calendars are attached below.  Students should always follow assignment posted on white board.
