Thank you all so very much for attending our Author's Party last week. You have been such an amazing support system all year long and it directly impacts your child's performance at school. I was very proud of the students' reading and presentation skills as well as their behavior during the party. They are truly ready for the next step as they continue their journey into 1st grade. Thanks again for the party donations and making the day so special for all of us!
Thanks to Melissa Lynch and Christine Nix for typing all of the book publishing stories. You rock!
Lots of events will be occurring over the last 2 weeks of school. This week:
CC the Colt visited Kylie's house this past week and we can’t wait to hear all about their adventures. CC only has 2 more homes to visit! A few reminders about CC: · CC will stay with you for 3 or 4 days before visiting a new home · Be very careful with our CC while he visits your home · Your child will write about their time with CC in the provided notebook. . You may assist your child with spelling as they write about their adventures with CC, but this should be written by the children and NOT the parents. · Photos or drawn pictures may be included in the notebook
If you are looking for more to do with your child at home consider flash cards for addition and subtraction. As a 1st grade teacher I noticed that solving simple addition and subtraction problems quickly was often difficult for many children. In kindergarten, it is really important for the kids to have a good understanding of numbers to 10...so if you want to practice math facts focus on sums to 10 and differences from 10, as well as facts that we call doubles (1+1, 2+2, 3+3 etc...). For those needing a challenge focus on facts to 18.
REMINDERS… Your child should be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school after an illness. This helps ensure that the rest of the class and staff stay healthy and also allows your child ample time to recover. Don’t forget to practice sight words each night with your child.
Remember that library books should only be kept for 10 school days at a time.
If you decide that you would like to volunteer during our language arts block (11:05-12:10), as a guest reader (Fri 1:00-1:20), or for a fun classroom activity, just send a message to Melissa Lynch and she will put you on our volunteer schedule.
It is very important that your child is fever free for 24 hours before returning to school after an illness. We also need a written excuse for any absence within 3 days of the date of the absence otherwise it will be counted as unexcused. Notes, E-mails & faxes are all acceptable forms of a written excuse. Of course you do not always go to the doctor for every illness, but we always recommend that you get a doctor’s note whenever you take your child to the doctor.
Don’t forget to visit the PortaPortal link above to practice our current math skills as well as reading and language arts skills. You can also visit Spelling City and IXL Math to practice skills at home.
I am always looking for ways to improve our class website. If you have any ideas of what you would like to see or have available to you, please let me know. J
