Day8

Fort Bragg - San Francisco - 230 miles
Temp - morn 57F, high 87F

Sights - PCH, Golden Gate Bridge (just!!), Bodega Bay (where "The Birds" by Alfred Hitchcock was filmed)

Riding today would be a continuation from yesterday along the coast.  It would also be one of our shortest days rides, allowing us to take in the sights and allow us time to socialise with Vijay and Mo.

We stopped at the Tides restaurant in Bodega Bay, which is famous for being used in the Alfred Hitchcock film The Birds.  Although the film was pretending to be set in England most filming was done here.

I was only 13 miles from my birthplace, but it looks like some people had been taking pot shots at the sign.

Last year in the Alps Uncle Phil and I got stopped on a road by the Emergency services because a cyclist had gone off the road on a sharp downhill bend, we also had the same problem here.

I had been looking forward to seeing the Golden Gate Bridge before we crossed it into San Francisco.  But the weather had other ideas.  Just as we arrived the mist rolled in, which is a common occurance here I am told, totally blocking any view of it.

We rode to an elevated position to get some pictures of the bridge, but I have had to skilfully photoshop the picture to give some idea of how the bridge would look........or even where it is.

And the following picture is courtesy of Richard Follen.  A picture of the Golden Gate Bridge as it should look without the mist.  Note to self.......must get a better tour guide next time.  Views like this are as rare as a full eclipse of the sun as there is normally mist along this coast.

This is about as much of the bridge that we saw, but it seemed very similair in size to the Forth Road Bridge back home.

A short way from Vijay's house, Tunitas Creek Road, but all I could hear was ringing in my ears.

Not the sort of shot of the Tour Guide, half way through the trip that en stills confidence in his "paying" guests.

In the evening Richard and his wife came around to renew old aquaintances, and Mo prepared a very good curry for us all.
