Wild Rose United Church Members Committed to their Community

On February 6, 2010, Wild Rose United Church hosted a silent auction and dinner which raised over $8,700 for the Calgary Homeless Foundation (CHF). Laura Dickson, COO of the CHF, also gave a presentation on Calgary's 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness.

As an inner-city church, Wild Rose United has a strong focus on helping people experiencing homelessness. "They are our fellow Calgarians... we are tugged in the heart to help those around us," Reverend Linda Hunter explained.

With lively jazz music playing and over 250 silent auction items up for grabs, plus more than 30 volunteers and 120 tickets sold, Rev. Hunter said the place was "humming with a vibrant energy that we were doing something to make an impact in people's lives."

With their small but passionate Outreach Committee, Wild Rose United is committed to social justice issues locally and internationally. They chose to support the CHF because they felt the mission to end homelessness in Calgary and "Housing First" philosophy fit their values and vision for the community.

Everyone at the CHF would like to thank Sue Knapp, Chair of the Outreach Committee, Rev. Hunter and all members of Wild Rose United for their contribution and their dedication to helping people overcome homelessness.
