Every year, on Columbus Day weekend, we do a kayak trip that circumnavigates Chincoteague Island.

 

Twenty miles of kayaking in one day!  After doing this, no matter where you are on the island, if you see water, you will be able to say "I've been there!".  You don't need to do the whole trip, and can stop at any of the public boat ramps along the way.
