Wild Hair Fiber is a family run farm. Our farm consists of sheep, alpacas and a few other pets and guard animals.
Our sheep flock started with crossbred ewes and Dorsets in the early 90s. Over the years our interests have turned more in the direction of fiber production. With this goal in mind a group of Romeldale/CVM sheep were added to the flock in 2008.
Romeldale/CVM sheep are a critically endangered breed known for their wool which has next-to-the-skin softness. Their fleeces are also unique in the respect that they grow darker and softer with age. The breed is officially known as Romedales. However, many people refer to them as CVM. Technically, the breed is Romedale and CVM is a color pattern within the breed. Along with the CVM pattern, Romeldales come is white and natural color. See our Romeldale photos page for examples of different colors and patterns. Our Romeldale/CVM sheep are registered with the American Romeldale-CVM Registry (Linda Pfeiffer , Registrar) and we are a member of the National CVM Conservancy.
A group of Cotswold sheep joined the farm is 2009 and were the beginning of our long wool flock. Our long wool flock started out as a purebred Cotswold flock and has quickly become a commercial flock. Our commercial flock has both natural color and white sheep and carries Romney, Lincoln, Romeldale/CVM, Cotswold and Teeswater genetics. Our crossbred flock, along with our purebred sheep are selected for fleece characteristics, hardiness and mothering ability.
Our alpacas are a fiber herd and are mostly unregistered animals.
We offer a limited number of Romeldale/CVM breeding stock, Romeldale/CVM fiber lambs and commercial ewes and rams for sale each year. Email us for information on what we have available.
Fiber Each year we will have raw fleece for sale from our sheep and alpacas. Raw fiber has been shorn from the animal with no additional processing. Any excessively dirty areas of the fleece is removed at the time of shearing. However we do not coat our animals so raw fiber will have the normal amount of vegetable matter and dirt.
