Posted 5/9/2012 - One of our long time members, Paul K., has an article published in the April 20-May 3, 2012 issue of the Pacific Citizen. We were hoping to be able to provide a link to it on the Pacific Citizen's website but at this time it doesn't appear to available online.

Tom S. and family attended the Nikkei WWII Veteran Tribute held in Chicago, IL on May 22, 2012.  Almost 50 veterans from Chicago and surrounding areas were honored.  The event was attended by hundreds of family members and friends.  Family photos from the event can be viewed here.  Event photographers have posted an album on Shutterfly containing almost 600 photos from the event. 

We hope to see you at the Brewer Game and Tailgate on July 1, 2012.  If you didn't sign up for it, maybe we'll see you at the picnic on Sunday August 5, 2012.  Don't forget to make you're reservation!


Posted 3/2/2012 - Spring is around the corner (even though we're having a winter storm tonight) and that means baseball will be returning to Milwaukee soon. Check out the latest newsletter for information on our upcoming Brewers Game and Tailgate. It's scheduled for Sunday July 1, 2012. We need your reservations by March 15th. Posted 2/26/2012 - Our Chapter has an article published in the most recent issue of the Pacific CitizenIt's close to the back of the issue along with a photo of the three WWII veterans honored with a City of Milwaukee Proclamation.


Posted 1/29/2012 - We had the Inaugural Luncheon today.  We had some very special guests at the event.  Mayor Tom Barrett attended and presented proclamations to each of our Congressional Gold Medal veteran members.  Consul General Okamura from the Japanese Consulate in Chicago was our guest speaker.  He gave a very insightful speech on his experiences in the US, information on the tsunami and the important relationship between the US and Japan.  Check the Photo Gallery or this link to go directly to the Picasa album.


Posted 1/5/2012 - Happy New Year!  We have several announcements about the upcoming Wisconsin JACL Inaugural Luncheon on January 29th.  We are honored that Consul General Okamura from the Japanese Consulate in Chicago will be attending and speaking at the event.  We will also be honoring the Congressional Gold Medal veterans who are members of our chapter.  Please note that the luncheon is earlier than usual this year and will be starting at 11AM.  We plan to serve lunch at 11:30AM.  Don't forget to make your reservations by January 16th by calling Lynette or Dave at the numbers listed in your December newsletter or e-mail us at the Contact Us chapter e-mail address.  We hope to see you at the Inaugural.

Posted 12/04/2011 - We held the annual Christmas Party today at Wilson Commons.  As always, we had a good turn out, great food and a visit from Santa.  Thanks to everyone involved in making this event a success.  Pictures are posted. Click this link or go to the Photo Gallery page to see them.

Check back for information on the Inaugural Luncheon scheduled for January 29, 2012.  This year it's starting earlier - 11AM.  Remember to make your reservation. 

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel will have an article on Wednesday December 7, 2011 based on interviews with two of our Congressional Gold Medal awardees.  The article will show how Pearl Harbor affected the lives of Japanese Americans.







Photos from the Holiday Folk Fair held November 18-20, 2011 are posted.  Our Cultural Exhibit booth was presented with the award for "Best Interaction with Public" for the second year in a row!  Congratulations!  Thanks to all of our volunteers,  chairpersons and others who worked behind the scenes to make it another successful year.  Click the link or go to the Photo Gallery page to view the pictures.










Posted 11/03/2011 - The Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony honoring veterans of the 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team and the MIS was held yesterday in Washington, D.C.  There are videos of the ceremony on the Internet at Cspan and on pentagonchannel.mil.  This link will take you to the Cspan video page. This video shows the segment that aired on Cspan yesterday (about 32 minutes).  A link to the full ceremony on the pentagonchannel.mil is currently showing in the Home page under "Featured Videos" heading.  You might have to search for it, unfortunately, it couldn't be linked.






Posted 11/01/2011 - Three of our WWII Veterans were interviewed by Fox 6 last Wednesday 10/26/2011 for a news segment about the upcoming Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony.  There's a video at the Fox 6 website that you can view by clicking this link for the video and this link for the story.  All three are in Washington, D.C. participating in the events leading up to the Presentation Ceremony on 11/02/2011.  The ceremony will be streamed live online at pentagonchannel.mil starting at 10:30AM EST.  The ceremony may also be broadcast on CSPAN if other events don't preempt it.  Congratulations to Ron, Sus, Tom and all of the other Congressional Gold Medal recipients!

Posted 8/2/2011 - We hope you enjoyed the Annual Picnic on Sunday 7/31/2011.  It was another beautiful warm day at Marx Park in New Berlin.  Keeping with tradition, we had grilled chicken teriyaki and corn to go with all the tasty dishes brought by the attendees.  It's always a great chance to catch up with members and friends.  You can see photos from the Picnic at the Photo Gallery page or click this link to go directly to the Picasa album of the Picnic.


Posted 7/12/2011 - Wow - what a great ballgame!  We had our
Brewer Tailgate/Ballgame on Sunday 7/10/2011 and watched the Brewers take on their Division rival Cincinnati Reds.  After enjoying a warm and humid tailgate lunch we went into Miller Park for an even steamier ballgame.  It was all worth it though.  The Brewers came back to win the game in the bottom of the ninth inning.  Did I mention that it was a great game?  Check out photos in the Photo Gallery or click this link to  the Picasa album of the Brewer game.

Posted 3/22/2011 - National JACL is working on relief efforts for the Japanese earthquake/tsunami disaster working with Direct Relief International. They have jointly established the Japan Relief and Recovery Fund and have transferred donations through it to the Association for Aid and Relief Japan (AAR Japan), a 31-year old leading Japanese nonprofit, nongovernmental organization.  Our chapter has made a donation to this effort.  The National website www.jacl.com is accepting additional donations.  You can also donate to the Red Cross. On a local level you can attend a fund raising event organized by the Milwaukee Japanese Association.  Event information: Japan Earthquake Victims Fundraising – Fight On! Japan,  Date: 3/26 (Sat)  1PM – 4 PM, Location: Logemann Community Center, Address: 6100 West Mequon Road, Mequon, WI 53092.

Posted 11/30/2010 - We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!  For many of us it gave us a chance to recover from a busy Holiday Folk Fair weekend.  Watch for information in our newsletter about another member of our chapter being inducted into the HFF Wall of Fame.  Our exhibit booth was honored with the award for "Best Interaction with Public".  Thanks to all of the members and friends who helped us to have another successful year.

We hope to see you at our annual Christmas Party on December 5, 2010.  This year the party is being held at Wilson Commons, 1400 W. Sonata Dr, Milwaukee.  It's pot luck, so bring a dish and your centerpiece!  We're starting at 11:30.

Our annual Inaugural Dinner will be held on Sunday January 30, 2010*.  Come join us at The Charcoal Grill and Rotisserie, 15375 W Greenfield Ave. (Greenfield Ave and Moorland Road).  Registration at noon; dinner serving at 12:30 with Program to follow.  Entree choices include the return of prime rib, salmon and rotisserie chicken.  Meals will include salad, potato, vegetable, beverage and dessert.  Check for pricing and reservation information in our newsletter.

Wisconsin Chapter History

Organized on May 11, 1945, the Milwaukee Chapter was renamed Wisconsin Chapter in 1991.

• Participates in Midwest District Council and National JACL activities.
• Is involved with the
International Institute of Wisconsin
• Cooperates with the Wisconsin-Chiba Inc. Committee, Japanese Intern Teachers Program, and Wisconsin Council on Social Studies.
• Offers scholarships to high school graduates and
college students.
• Publishes a chapter newsletter.
Membership benefits: Subscription to the PACIFIC CITIZEN, the JACL national newsletter.
