Modifying the Nintendo Wii does not affect your system in any way in terms of limiting it of its original capabilities. All the modification does is to allow the Wii to play imported games and backup copies of your original games (a backup is an exact copy of an original game you own on a DVD-R / DVD+R disc). After the upgrade your Wii will still be able to do all its original capabilities PLUS play backups and Imports!
