Hello. My name's Neil. In half an hour last weekend (10th Jan '09) I set up www.wifi-in-cardiff.co.uk using Googlemaps, just because I thought it was needed. I'm no coder, designer or developer, so was chuffed at how easy it was to do. I told the world on Twitter. Within an hour two friends (hey Stef and Ben!) had created identical ones for Bristol and Exeter and the idea for a user-generated UK directory was born.

So, here's the deal. If you want to help us create a UK wide directory, plus get some groovy local kudos for yourself, we'd love to have you on board. Click on "How To" to find out how to get it up and running. It's incredibly easy - if you have even the most basic grasp of the interwebs then you'll be able to do it. Apart from that, it would just be cool for everyone to pitch in and help us generate a UK-wide map of Wifi hotspots.

A few questions from me to you:

• This is just a temporary holding page. Any suggestions on cool platforms/CMS/apps that will make it easy to update and take new contributions? I'll want to make this all editable by anyone at some point. It's just "locked" until I get it all sorted.
  
• There's probably other Google Maps out there of wifi in certain towns. Should we include them in the directory? Or would their (inevitably) different colour codes etc confuse the issue?
• Can maps be merged if we get ones submitted from overlapping areas? Or if we want to create one massive UK map?
• Anything I've missed or messed up?
• Anyone want to start some international ones?
