Wiess College Nominees for University Awards:
Jill Pittman Jones Award
(The Jill Pitman Jones Award was established
in 1983 by H. Russell Pitman to honor his sister, Jill Pitman Jones. 
Each 
college nominates one male and one female
who have shown interest, leadership and sportsmanship in and support 
of the IM program.)

(The Outstanding Senior Awards are given to
graduating seniors who have contributed the most to excellence at Rice

award will go to the type of person one
respects. The contribution of excellence of these students should
reflect a 
commitment over time.)

senior may be nominated by each of the
colleges.)

Alan Grob Prize

(The Alan Grob Prize is named in honor of Alan Grob, for
forty years a great teacher of literature at Rice University and a voice
for 
those who cannot speak
for themselves.  The Alan Grob Prize is awarded annually to the
Rice undergraduate who, through service 
to the larger
community, has demonstrated the most devotion to the needs and interests
of the economically and culturally disadvantaged.)

Morty Rich Scholarship (The Morty Rich Scholarshipo is presented to a continuing student who has distinguished himself/herself through commitment and service to Rice and/or to the greater community. The successful candidate(s) will have recognized a need in the community, developed objectives, and implemented or established program(s) that would benefit the community and will realize no personal gain for these efforts.)

Wiess College Nominations for 2010 are          Danielle Axelson and Siggy Bilstein

Hugh Scott Cameron Award (The Rice University Service Award, given in memory of Dean of Students Hugh Scott Cameron, is awarded to as many as four individuals of the Rice student population, past and present, who have been most exemplary in rendering service to the student body. Preferably recipients should not be receiving remuneration for their services unless their work has been of a quality above and beyond that ordinarily rendered.)

Commencement Award for Leadership and Advocacy (The Commencement Award for Leadership and Advocacy will honor a 2010 graduating student, undergraduate or graduate, who exemplifies the values and causes of this year's invited commencement speaker, Muhammad Yunus. Professor Yunus was awarded the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in micro-lending and the battle against world poverty.)

Wiess College Awards:

Hutchinson Award

(John and Paula Hutchinson, Masters of Wiess College from 1994 to 2001, brought to the college a spirit of service to the community.  The Hutchinson Award seeks to recognize a sophomore, junior or returning senior who has been exemplary in serving Wiess but whose dedication has not otherwise been recognized (i.e., through an elected Cabinet position or other college office.)

(Selected by Masters to students who may not be recognized otherwise and have contributed outstanding service to Wiess College.)

Daniel Caesar Memorial Award
(The Daniel Caesar Memorial Award is given annually to a graduating senior of Wiess College who has made significant contributions to college life through music, theatre, or other cultural activities.  As a respected member of the College from 1990 until his accidental death in 1993, Dan Caesar enriched the college with his dry wit and musical talents.)

Olga Keith Wiess Service Award
(Named in honor of Olga Keith Wiess and awarded to a graduating senior for the most outstanding service to Wiess College.)

Olga Keith and Harry Carothers Wiess Freshman Scholarship   (This scholarship was established by Olga Keith and Harry Carothers Wiess, benefactors of Wiess College.  This scholarship is awarded to a rising sophomore for outstanding service throughout the first year.)
