Trinity Garden Container Tour

Trinity Reformed Church in Munster, IN, maintains a food pantry for Love INC of Greater Hammond.  To supplement the food pantry with fresh vegetables, the church grows  tomato plants in an 11" deep wading pool garden.  An additional wading pool garden with flowers decorates the entrance.

In 2010 the church displayed 7 container gardens which use methods described in the wick gardening pages of this website. Several of these gardens were flower displays and one was a tomato and herb garden.  The purpose of the flower gardens were to demonstrate the wading pool garden technique.

A photo tour showing how Trinity's container gardens were created from  May 2010,  is available by following the link at the under the picture on the bottom right side of this page.

Trinity learned how to build wading pool gardens from   ECHO in Ft. Myers, FL, a mission which helps fight hunger through agriculture education.  This organization is supported by the church.   Examples of wading pool flower and vegetable gardens can now be viewed on the church property at 8411 Columbia, Munster, IN.

After viewing the photos and descriptions here, you can visit the church at the corner of Ridge Road and Columbia Avenue in Munster and see the gardens for yourself June through September.  Each year there will be changes in the gardens to meet the needs of the church and the food pantry.

An attached PDF below is a set of printed instructions for creating a wading pool garden like the ones on display at Trinity Reformed Church.
