* SPECIAL THANKS TO REED TIMMER AT TORNADOVIDEOS.NET IN OKLAHOMA, MICHAEL FOLEY AND GREG BROWNING, METEOROLOGISTS FROM THE DARWIN BUREAU OF METEOROLOGY, MICHAEL BATH AND JIMMY DEGUARA FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SEVERE WEATHER DISCUSSION FORUM WEBSITE for their ongoing advice! * Darwin is Australia's northernmost tropical city and averages over 92 thunderstorm days per year and can experience tropical cyclones during the monsoonal period. We experience two seasons of weather - the 'dry' which is from May to September and the 'wet' which is from December to April. Although we have also what's know as the 'build-up' period during October and November where it's hot and humid and there's little relief until daily storms come or the monsoon arrives! Darwin's weather is typically around 32C during the dry and temps of 17-24C overnight, but in the wet season temps get to 37C and 24 - 26 overnight and with high humidity from 60 - 100%. So it does get a little 'troppo' at times. * In the following pages you'll find stacks of info regarding Darwin's stormy weather, tropical cyclones including TC Tracy that destroyed Darwin on Christmas Day in 1974 and previous cyclones that Darwin has encountered. *There's also lots of meteorological info re thunderstorms and how they form and what tools you can use to look for any development and a bit on storm and lightning safety - (must emphasize that!) * For the photographers who want to get close and personal for taking great shots I'll include a host of info on locations and what to do to make it easy taking lightning shots. * A page on storm chasing here in Darwin and the rural area and MORE! I hope you enjoy my site. I'll regularly update it so as to keep you all informed on events here and improve the site to make it interesting for you! If you wish to comment please do at darwintrio@bigpond.com.au or wickedskies@gmail.com ! All photos on these pages are my own unless otherwise appropriately acknowledged. My photos are available for sale and email me if you would like pricing and size availability. I'm in the process of making a page up with a gallery of my photos so you can look at them. Cheers!
