October is DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH Our Community Service Project will benefit the 4th Quarter, but will actually take place at the end of this month. ******* One in three women in this country will suffer some kind of violence at the hands of her husband or boyfriend. ******* Few will tell anyone. All hope it won't happen again. Most often it does. Catholic Charities Harbor House exists to help women break the cycle of family violence. By providing shelter, support, and compassion, Harbor House works with women and their children to help them realize a life free from abuse and envision a future filled with promise and hope. www.catholiccharitieswichita.org/cc.php?name=Harbor%20House%20And%20Outreach%20Advocate%20Services OUR PROJECT In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Catholic Charities has graciously allowed us to come to their Harbor House for a tour of the facility and information on the services they provide, along with training on how to make large florist bows! We will make large florist purple bows that will be hung up in front of the District County Court House and other locations during the month of October. People who walk by the bows will be able to read information about Domestic Violence Awareness. The bows need to be ready to go on trees by October 1st, which means that we need to have them made before then. We will meet at the Harbor House on Saturday, September 27, 2008 10:00am – 11:00am If you would like to participate, please RSVP to Vanessa, Community Service Coordinator Due to the nature of the services provided by the Harbor House, and to protect the women who use these services, I cannot disclose the address electronically. Once you RSVP, I will give you the address by phone (so please provide your phone number). It is very important that you practice strict confidentiality once you receive the address. Upon arriving at the Harbor House, you will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement stating that you will not disclose the location to anyone. Note: This is a hands-on activity. Literally, both of your hands have to be on the bow at all times while you are making it. If you let go, you have to start all over! Harbor House has requested that those in attendance be WMM moms only. Please make arrangements for childcare if you plan to attend. |
