Whitney High School Robotics and Brenner Fiedler Pneumatics
Welcome! This is the homepage of FIRST Robotics Competition Team 1135-Whitney High School Robotics and Brenner Fiedler PneumaticsIntroductionTeam 1135 is based in Cerritos, California bordering Orange County and Los Angeles County. Our "home base" is Whitney High School, an 7-12 academic magnet reknowned to be one of best public high schools in California and the nation. But, what's special about 1135?Like any FIRST team, Whitney High School Robotics consists of highly dedicated students who undertake the task of participating in this competition. Our students must know how to manage the fine line between heavy studies and intricate robot-building. Our team is generally under-resourced, but any observer will find that the connection between members of 1135--mentors, students, or volunteers--is that of a family. While often quite spirited, all students on the team are highly mature and diligent--they know what they're setting out to do. Team 1135 is guided by the mentors but student-run, from robot build to programming to even club managment and affairs. We believe that our team is independent and we have a certain flair and style to our operation that is distinct. Perhaps the best way to learn about WHS Robotics and really understand how we operate is to give us a visit, or contact us. If not, then check out more of the webpage to get a feel for the way things work around here. What's happening with the club? Check out the News section to see our progress. More questions? About Us2003 was Whitney High School’s first year participating in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). At the Southern California Regional, we won the Rookie All-Star Award. In 2004, our team entered its second year in the FRC. We mentored Anaheim High School and FRC team won the Judges' Award at the Southern California Regional Robotics Competition. 2005 marked the first year that both teams - FRC and FLL - were invited to the World Festival in April, at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia. After a two-year hiatus starting a FIRST Tech Challenge team, Team 1135 is back and stronger than ever. Ready to enter the playing field, WHS Robotics is excited to be a part of the 2008 FIRST Robotics Competition Challenge: FIRST Overdrive. For an extended history of team 1135, click here. Our CharterCogito; ergo, condo. "I think; therefore, I build." This is what WHS Robotics is all about. The United States of America is an amazing country because, historically, we have been a nation of thinkers, inventors, and people who visualize a better future for our progeny. Now, that very fabric of that society is at risk. 30% of our engineering jobs go unfilled, because we no longer have enough students who are willing to do what it takes to make a difference - to study hard, work hard, and go the extra mile. This club is about changing that paradigm, one student at a time. We learn the math and the science, we rely upon generous and knowledgeable mentors to assist us, and we follow the tenants of "gracious professionalism" taught by the good folks from FIRST Robotics, who have helped us make it happen. From the younger generation, we hope to create a group of future thinkers and leaders in the nation. |
