Student Information


Your responsibility:

You are leasing the same netbook from the school until you graduate from grade 8.  The files and other information stored on the netbook should NOT be considered private.  Treat the netbook with care.  If you damage a school owned book you must pay for that damage, the same is true of your netbook.  The netbook is under warranty for 1 year.
 
What the netbook has to offer:
  • Windows 7 Starter operating system
  • Use of the internet as a network, otherwise known as "cloud" computing
  • Significant storage space on the hard drive to store your files
    • Do not consider this storage space as private
    • You may want to back up your work on an on-line storage account
  • WebCam, speakers, built in microphone, and an SD card slot
How to take care of your netbook:
  • Use your backpack when moving your netbook
  • Do NOT mark/paint/draw on your netbook
  • You MAY buy a REMOVABLE skin for protecting your notebook at your own expense
  • Close your netbook before moving it
  • Recharge your battery each night, the netbook should last all day
    • you may bring your power cord to school if your battery runs down
  • Save your files to your hard drive - important files should be backed up to on-line account
  • Update your netbook regularly
Some uses for the netbook:
  • Netbooks are NOT designed to run programs that require extensive computer resources, such as computer assisted design (CAD) programs, gaming, or video editing software
  • Open Office or Google Docs can be used for simple word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations
  • Research, collaboration with teachers, tutorials, and practice tests work well on your netbook
  • Online research services through Moodle, the Wheatland Website, and WebGrader are encouraged
  • Electronic textbook usage is encouraged
What to do if you don't have broadband Internet at home:
 
  • You will have to download sites and information at school to use at home if you do not have an internet connection at home
