1. Continuously check for and install all Windows Updates:
- Open "Internet Explorer"
- Click on "Tools" in upper left Menu Bar
- Click on "Windows Updates"
- Click on "Express" to scan for updates
- Click on "Install Updates" (Follow any online prompts for the install)
- After "Installation Complete", click "Close"
- Restart your computer, if necessary.
- During shutdown of computer, if prompted, always allow updates to install.
2. Update the Norton anti-virus software, when necessary:
- Click on Start - All Pograms - Symantec Anti-Virus - Symantec Client Security
- Choose "Live Update"
- Let the update download finish completely before operating other programs.
- ** This process can only be done at school **
3. Run Disk DeFragmenter
Note - this process takes a few hours!
- Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk DeFragmenter
- Click on Analyze - allow program to finish
- Click on DeFragment - allow program to finish
- Close program
4. Update Java, when prompted.
- Uncheck the box requesting installation of any toolbars, antivirus programs, etc.
5. To prevent expensive repairs that are not covered under your warranty:
- Make sure your netbook is well ventilated when operating.
- Do not operate your netbook on a soft surface, such as a bed or blanket.
- Be careful not to drop or bump your netbook.
- Do not set anything on top of your netbook.
- Although the case is strong, it is not made to support extra weight.
- When transporting your netbook, it is recommended that you put it in a carrying case.
- Avoid subjecting your netbook to extreme temperature changes.
- Keep all liquids away from your netbook.
- Avoid dusty or dirty work environments.
6. Always shutdown your netbook using the "shutdown" option.
- Never turn off your netbook when the hard drive light is on because data on the hard drive could be lost or corrupted.
7. To help keep your system performing at its best, keep your netbook clean and the vents free from dust.
- Always shut down the computer and remove the battery before cleaning.
- Use a damp, lint-free microfiber cloth.
- Do not use abrasive or solvent cleaners because they can damage the finish.
8. Your netbook is cooled by air drawn in through the vents on the case, so keep the vents free of dust.
- With the netbook turned off and unplugged, brush the dust away from the vents with a damp cloth.
- Be careful not to drip any water into the vents.
- Do not attempt to clean dust from the inside of the netbook.
9. You should clean the keyboard occasionally to free it of dust and lint trapped under the keys.
- The way to do this is to blow dirt from under the keys using an aerosol can of air with a narrow, straw-like extension. These can's are available and Wal-Mart, Target, or any computer store.
10. If you spill liquid on the keyboard:
- Turn off the netbook and turn the unit upside down.
- Let the liquid drain, then let the keyboard dry before trying to use it again.
- If the keyboard does not work after it dries, you may need to replace it.
11. To clean the screen:
- Use a lint-free microfiber cloth and a mix of 50% Witch Hazel (double distilled alcohol)with 50% water. Witch Hazel and be purchased at any pharmacy.
- Spray the alcohol/water solution directly on the cloth (never directly on the screen), and wipe the screen with the cloth.
