Introduction

What Tree is That? is a database accessed through INSPIRE at www.inspire.in.gov or the Arbor Day Foundation website at http://www.arborday.org/trees/whattree/ .  So, if you have a tree in your backyard that you are not sure what it is, this is a great database for you.  Even better it is free to you, the user, through INSPIRE or the Arbor Day Foundation.  The purpose of this database is to educate you about the different trees you come in contact with everyday and how to care for those trees.

With this database being online, you can access it anywhere you have computer and internet; also, What Tree is That? will take you step by step with questions about your leaf and tree to help you identify your tree making this online database easy to use and easily accessible to you.  Not sure what a certain term means?  Just check out the glossary of tree terms page.  Want to know about the benefits of trees or how to properly care for your tree?  Click on The Benefits of Trees link under the Related Resources menu.  Here you can learn what trees grow best in your area, how to care for the trees you already have and the benefits you can gain by planting trees.

Now that I have listed many strengths about this database I will warn you that one weakness would be that the database does not have all the possible trees in the world.  However, the database does contain most of the trees in your backyard.  This database can be used by all ages interested in identifying, learning or caring for trees; however if you are younger than 10 I would suggest you have an adult help you, since some of the questions may be a bit confusing.  Not sure where to start? Do not worry just read through the tutorial page of this website and I will guide you.
