The New Bedford High School Band and its component groups will fulfill an educational and inspirational role in the life of the High School and the surrounding City of New Bedford by striving for musical and personal growth while instilling a sense of pride and tradition through our music and our spirit.

For New Bedford High School Students, we seek to: 

• Provide the most comprehensive instrumental music education possible.

• Promote positive values and attributes including effort, responsibility, accomplishment, and self-worth through rehearsal, performance, and competition.

• Provide practical experience in leadership and interpersonal skills through training and the use of student leadership positions.

For the New Bedford High School Community and the City of New Bedford, we strive to:

• Add color, dignity, and excitement to many important School and City events such as pep rallies, graduations, and inaugurations.

• Represent New Bedford High School and the City of New Bedford at events and competitions outside the City.

• Maintain and add to cherished traditions through high quality performances of the United States National Anthem, the Fight Song, and other traditions.

For Whaler athletes and fans at NBHS sporting events, we work to:

• Provide inspiration and excitement that creates the greatest home field advantage possible, while staying within the rules and the realm of good taste.

• Demonstrate enthusiasm for the Whaler teams that is consistent, visible, audible, and reflects well on the school.

• Create an exciting and enjoyable atmosphere in which to view a school athletic event, including pre-game, halftime, and post-game entertainment, as well as providing timely music during the game.
