The PDSA Constitution

Preamble: It is the purpose of the Predental Student Association to serve as an interest group
for students of Wake Forest University who are pursuing admission to a dental program and a career in dentistry.
The goals of the Predental Student Association are to provide its members with insight into various opportunities
and careers in dentistry, to assist them in their pursuit of a graduate program in dentistry through
recommendation of proper curriculum and résumé-building experiences, to afford them with current dental materials,
and to sustain the mission and purpose of Wake Forest University.

   Article I: Name
The official name of this interest group is the Predental Student Association and may be abbreviated as PDSA.

   Article II: Membership 
Section 1: Membership of the PDSA shall be without discrimination because of race, color, religion, national
           origin, age, sex, veteran status, handicapped status, disability, or sexual orientation.
Section 2: The Executive Committee may suspend any PDSA member at any time for inappropriate conduct as
           according to the standards and Honor Code of Wake Forest University. The decision must be
           approved by two-thirds of the Executive Committee to remain in effect. 
Section 3: Membership categories:
           a) Executive Committee / Officers: A member in good standing, who has paid dues and has been elected
              into office by a two-thirds majority vote of PDSA members present at a called meeting.  Executive
              Committee members have voting power in PDSA meetings as well as in Executive Committee meetings.
           b) Members: An individual in good standing with the PDSA, expresses interest in dental science, and
              has paid his or her semester dues.  Members have voting power at PDSA meetings.

   Article III: Officers 
Section 1: Officers and Their Responsibilities
           a) President: The president calls and chairs the PDSA meetings, organizes events, presides over
              meetings of the Executive Committee, and acts as a liaison to the community and all external
              constituencies of Wake Forest University.
           b) Vice President: The vice president keeps the minutes of the PDSA meetings, leads the PDSA meetings
              in the absence of the president, is accountable for all communication, including but not limited to
              the advertisement of meetings and other activities, and is responsible for the hospitality of guests
              and services provided by the PDSA.
           c) Treasurer: The treasurer is responsible for all PDSA funds, the tracking and handling of all funds,

              and the collection of membership dues.  The treasurer must keep a log of the finances. 

          d) Events Coordinator: The events coordinator is responsible for all extra-curricular events planned through

  PDSA, and acts as the primary contact person for such events. 

e) Underclassmen Mentor Coordinator: The underclassmen mentor coordinator is

  responsible for relaying information between the freshman and sophomore classes and PDSA Executive Committee.

  
Section 2: Elections
           a) Elections of PDSA officers will occur on the second meeting of the spring semester.
           b) All officers must be in good standing with the Wake Forest University community and on good financial
              standing by paying their dues.
           c) A two-thirds majority vote is required by PDSA members attending the called meeting to elect a member
              into office.
           d) The term of office is one calendar year for all officers. 
Section 3: Upon vacancy of an office there will be an election during the next regular meeting to fill the vacant
           office.  This election will follow the guidelines stated in Section 2.

  Article IV: Executive Committee 
Section 1: The Executive Committee consists of the officers described in Article III, Section 1.
Section 2: Their election is as described in Article III, Section 2. 
Section 3: The purpose of the Executive Committee is to provide events and activities that further the knowledge
           and interest of the members in dental medicine. The Executive Committee also functions to facilitate
           members in their pursuit of a graduate program in dentistry.

   Article V: Meetings 
Section 1: A regular meeting will be held once a month, where specific dates will be voted upon at the beginning of

   every year. The Executive Committee is responsible for the planning of the meetings and their proceedings. 
Section 2: Extra activities will be scheduled by the Executive Committee and will be announced to PDSA members by
           the president and/or events coordinator.
Section 3: The Executive Committee shall meet at the beginning and end of each semester to plan the next meetings.
           The committee will also meet as necessary to discuss current issues.

   Article VI: Finances 
Section 1: Handling of Funds
           a) The treasurer is responsible for the handling and tracking of all PDSA funds in a responsible manner.
           b) The PDSA budget requires the approval of two-thirds of the Executive Committee.
           c) Funds will only be allotted in ways to pursue the intentions and goals of the PDSA. 
Section 2: Membership dues depend on the semester and will be collected at the first meeting of each semester.

   Article VII: Amendment 
Section 1: Amendments will be voted on two weeks from their time of proposal.
Section 2: Amendments to the PDSA constitution must be approved by a two-thirds majority vote of PDSA members
           attending the election.
Section 3: Amendments approved by the PDSA shall be submitted to the Student Life Committee for approval.

Section 4: PDSA members are required to attend at least 2 meetings per semester, in addition to at least one speaker

           or special event meeting.

   Article VIII: Faculty Advisor 
Section 1: Should a new faculty advisor be needed, nominations restricted to current Wake Forest faculty members
           will be taken from PDSA members at a designated meeting.
Section 2: The Executive Committee will interview the nominees and reports of these interviews will be presented to
           the PDSA members.
Section 3: An election shall be held where a two-thirds majority vote of PDSA members attending the meeting is required
           to approve the new faculty advisor.

   Article IX: Ratification 
Section 1: The PDSA Constitution must be approved by two-thirds of those members attending the vote.
Section 2: Upon receiving PDSA approval, the constitution shall be submitted for approval to the Appropriation and
           Charter Committee of the Student Government, the Student Government Legislature, the Student Life Committee,
           and the faculty of Wake Forest University, respectively.
