Maryland Sovereignty Resolution Bill Hearing (SJ1)

posted Jan 28, 2010 2:53 PM by Clint Brown   [ updated Feb 9, 2010 11:38 AM by Joshua Lyons ]

What: Public hearing on Senate Joint Resolution concerning Maryland Sovereignty Under the 10th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States
When: Wednesday Feb 17 at 1:00pm
Where: Senate Budget and Taxation Committee, 3 West, Miller Senate Building, 11 Bladen Street, Annapolis, MD 21401

This is a public hearing, so any and all people are welcome to attend, submit written testimony, or sign up to provide oral testimony. The chairman will limit the amount of time people have to testify (generally 3 minutes or so, depending on the amount of material they need to get through in a day). For anyone wishing to provide written testimony, the committee requires 25 copies to be hand delivered by 11:00am on the day of the hearing.  Anyone wishing to testify in person needs to sign the witness list before 12:00 noon on the day of the hearing (you can get your name to Sen. Mooney's office the morning of the hearing and they will sign you up).

BUS INFORMATION
55 total spots available (filling up fast!)
Cost: $15 per person (bring a couple dollars if you can to tip the driver)

The bus will leave at 10:30am from the MARC train station behind the Target on Rte 355 in Frederick, MD and will return at 5pm (possibly a little later)
**Recommend getting to the MARC station around 10am.

Contact Annette Royster to reserve a seat on the bus
Phone: (301) 437-7171

The officials at the Miller Senate Building (where the SJ1 hearing will be held) asks that we comply with these rules:

  • NO CELL PHONES ALLOWED in the hearing room
  • PICTURE ID WILL BE REQUIRED to enter the Miller Senate building
  • Everyone will have to pass through a metal detector to enter the building
  • No food/drink allowed in the hearing room
  • No posters in the hearing room; small signs are okay as long as they do not obstruct anyone's view or are offensive
  • Hearing room can accommodate approximately 50 people---so less items carried into the room is better because of space
  • The chairman will decide who speaks; some people may not get a chance to speak if too many people sign up (This is a good thing!)
  • Sign in sheets will be put out early on the morning of Feb. 17th
  • SJ1 may be delayed until later in the day to accommodate other bills before the chairman
