Letter to Families

Dear Room 103 Families,

This spring, we will begin our literature unit called Seeking Connection with Others.  Your students will be reading stories that explore the questions: How do we seek connection with other people?  What qualities do we need to have inside ourselves to seek connection with others?  Throughout the unit, we will discover the ways we seek connections in our own lives, such as making friends, sharing stories and adventures, and helping others.  Students will also learn literacy strategies to help them better understand the texts they read.

I am very excited about starting this new unit with our fantastic first graders.  Here are some ways you can support your student’s learning during this unit:

            - Talk with your student about what it means to seek connection with others, and examples of the way you do it in your own lives (ex.: telling stories about your day; sharing a fun experience or adventure, like a trip to the zoo or an exciting vacation; inviting a new neighbor to dinner).

            - Read books with your student and talk about the themes that arise (ex.: how the characters helped each other or how they shared stories and adventures).

If you have any questions about the unit, or if you are interested in helping out during our activities, please feel free to give me a call, send me an email, or send a note with your student to school.

                                                                                                            Sincerely,

Christina Ranon
