VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

We are excited to start a new section of the Westview We bsite titled Volunteer Spotlight. Here we will highlight various volunteers who have given of their time and talents to help the Westview PTA in one of its many endeavours. While we cannot possibly highlight every one of our many volunteers (ALL of whom are greatly appreciated!), we hope you can get to know some of the people who are behind our success.

BJ Wright

We are pleased to recognize "former" Westview parent, BJ Wright, for her extensive work in helping us manage all the concessions at Westview's Got Talent! BJ had two children come through Westview, and both are now at East Hamilton. However, BJ graciously returned to the Westview trenches to oversee the talent show concessions and make sure everything ran smoothly. Once a Westview parent...always a Westview parent! Thanks BJ!

Ivy Curry

A fellow parent submitted the following Volunteer Spotlight nomination to us. We sincerely appreciate the efforts of Ivy Curry in helping make our school great, and we thank the person who nominated her for bringing it to our attention.

"I would like to nominate Ivy Curry as as a volunteer for all of the time and effort she donates to Westview. I have noticed her helping out during Kindergarten lunch and working through the Trash for Treasure labels many, many times. She has a great spirit and attitude, and it is always nice to see such an interested parent."

The Westview's Got Talent! Committee

This year's Westview's Got Talent was a huge success, but it would not have been possible without tremendous work from many volunteers. We would like to say a special thanks to Ashlie Henderson and her entire committee for organizing the event, as well as to Holly Akins for directing and producing the show. We also thank the teachers and staff for supporting Westview's Got Talent and assisting us is making it happen. With continued parental and staff support, we hope to continue this event every year.

The Literacy Night Committee
This year's Literacy Night was such a wonderful event, but it would not have been possible without tremendous work from many volunteers. We would like to say a special thanks to Celeste Ward and her entire committee for organizing the event and arranging for Anna Dewdney to visit with us. We also thank the teachers and staff for supporting Literacy Night and assisting us is making it happen. With continued parental and staff support, we hope to plan more events like this in the future.

Sarah Brown
Thanks so much to Sarah Brown for keeping us informed! Sarah is in charge of changing the information on the school marquee to remind you of upcoming Westview events. That simple reminder as you drive by the school or through the car riderline may keep you from missing out on something big! Thanks for keeping us in the loop, Sarah!

Holley Blalock, Angela Campo, Jennifer Cook, Alison Gear, & Marcie Purcell
A HUGE thanks to these Westview moms who donated their time to help serve the Thanksgiving meal last week to the Pre-K, K, 2nd, and 4th grade classes. They also delivered meals to the grade levels that had to eat in their classrooms to make space for all the parents! We appreciate all your help!

Michelle Brittingham, Paulla Schuster, & Shelley Smith
We would not have Trash to Treasure without the hard work and guidance of Michelle Brittingham, Paulla Schuster, and Shelley Smith. These moms do a great job of organizing, recruiting, and managing this program that has grown significantly over the years. The money they generate from things that would be thrown away makes a big difference at our school. Thanks so much!

Ginny Runyan
A huge thanks to Ginny Runyan for the countless hours she spent promoting the PTA Reflections Program and organizing the Reflections Workshops. Many Westview families took advantage of the free day at the Hunter Museum, and over 80 students benefitted from the after school instructional art and video classes. Ginny is the mother of a kindergartener, Lily, and has wasted no time in getting involved. Thanks, Ginny!

Kim Wesolowski
If you love the Westview hoodies and t-shirts, you can thank Kim Wesolowski for taking care of all the orders and deliveries over the past month. In addition, Kim also manages the Accelerated Reader program for our school. Kim has two children at Westview, Emma in 2nd grade and Matthew in 5th grade. We truly appreciate all she does for our school.
Chattanooga State Baseball Team
A huge thanks to Coach Greg Dennis and the Chattanooga State Baseball Team for volunteering their time to help with this year's Harvest Hoedown. Over 30 players stayed all 4 hours to assist with parking, crowd control, booths, inflatables, and even handing out moon pies. We couldn't have done it without them! Be sure to show your thanks by supporting them in their 2012 baseball season. Check out their schedule on the Chattanooga State Baseball website
Cathy Hepworth
Give Cathy Hepworth a pat on the back for her outstanding effort in researching and securing the new acoustic panels that have been installed in the Westview cafeteria. This PTA funded project would not have been completed without her help. Cathy has two children at Westview, Dennis in 4th grade and Derek in 1st grade. Thanks Cathy!
