WHAT IS ACCELERATED READER (AR)?AR is a computer program that helps teachers manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child picks a book at his own level and reads it at his own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer. (Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read.) AR gives both children and teachers feedback based on the quiz results, which the teacher then uses to help your child set goals and direct ongoing reading practice. WEB-BASED AR PROGRAMThe Technology Committee has recently purchased a new web-based version of Accelerated Reader (AR) called Renaissance Place. This new software provides our students, teachers, and parents with some features that will greatly enhance the reading and learning experience. Here are a few of the compelling new additions:
We are very excited about the opportunities presented by this new product. We hope you will take time to help your children select appropriate books and encourage them to reach the goals their teachers have set. We appreciate your support as we continue to find new ways to use technology to enhance the education of our children. |
AR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSWant to learn more about AR? Download the Renaissance Place manual called "A Parent's Guide to Accelerated Reader."
Still have questions about the AR program? Please take a moment to view our AR FAQs. AR BOOKFINDER
Selecting the right books for your child to read is easier than ever. Just visit www.arbookfind.com to access AR BookFinder. With a few clicks of a mouse, you can search for titles at the appropriate level that your child will find interesting and enjoyable. Encourage your child to search for books as well. Once your child has found a book he likes, simply select the book and add it to the AR BookBag. This is basically an online book list that can be viewed and printed, then taken to your local library for use in checking out new books to read. HOME CONNECTThe new Home Connect feature of Renaissance Place is one of the most exciting elements of the product. It puts control into the hands of the parents and allows them to monitor their child’s progress from any computer with internet access. Parents can go online and view goals, average % correct, total number of points earned, and average book level. Parents can also view a list of every quiz a child has taken along with their score. Parents can even choose to receive email updates whenever a child has taken a quiz showing the results. Enter the following web address on any internet-based computer to watch an interactive video tutorial about Home Connect and find out more about the active role parents can play in their child’s reading: When you are ready to access Home Connect to view your child’s scores, go to: and enter your child’s user name and password which will be provided by your child’s teacher. |
