TECHNOLOGY

TECHNOLOGY UPDATE

It is hard to believe that more than two years have passed since we first explored the idea of a technology drive. The days of teachers holding their breath and crossing their fingers as they turned on computers are a distant memory thanks to the progress that has been made. Here is a snapshot of the many things that have been accomplished through our efforts:
  • Replaced the aging school server
  • Installed 25 refurbished lab computers
  • Set up 25 new flat panel monitors
  • Moved the previous 25 lab computers into the classrooms
  • Installed 28 additional donated PCs in the classrooms
  • Implemented a new web-based version of Accelerated Reader
  • Purchased PC to TV converters teachers can check out to use
  • Installed wireless access points in the conference rooms
  • Applied for and received a grant to acquire two interactive white boards which have been installed
  • Purchased 6 additional interactive white boards with funds donated by County Commissioner Larry Henry
  • Purchased and installed 13 document cameras and projectors for 1st and 2nd grade
  • Redesigned the Westview website, adding links for each grade level
  • Purchased and distributed 23 laptop computers for teacher use
  • Installed 15 additional donated PCs in the classrooms
  • Currently installing wireless access points throughout the school
Even with such amazing progress, there is still a long way to go to reach the cutting edge of technology. Imagine individual classroom websites, mobile computer labs, interactive white boards, document cameras, and many other tools that can enhance the learning experience more than we could have every imagined when we were kids. It is a gradual process, but there is no denying the benefits that advanced technology provides.

The PTA continues its commitment to supporting Westview's dedicated staff by investing in technology that will help students surpass their already excellent performance levels. We sincerely appreciate your continued support in this endeavor.

USED COMPUTER DONATION GUIDELINES

Westview Elementary is fortunate to have strong parental and community support. Community donations of technical equipment are genuinely appreciated. However, it is not always in the best interest of the school to accept every donation. Donated computers often require additional expenditures of time and money for the school. For this reason, we can only accept those donations that facilitate the school's technology plan, are compliant with the school's computing platform, and can become viable with minimal expenditures. Donated computers must meet minimum system requirements in order to be supported by repair personnel. These requirements should indicate that the equipment will remain useful in the classroom for a reasonable period of time.

If your equipment meets or exceeds the minimum system requirements found below, please contact the school directly to make your donation You can also email us with questions or to schedule a donation drop off.

TECHNOLOGY DRIVE REACHES END OF THE ROAD...

Our year-long technology drive has ended, and we want to thank you once again for helping build a foundation for Westview education. The teachers, students, and staff genuinely appreciate every gift that has been given to further the goals set forth by the technology committee. Although our active donation drive is ending, there is no end in sight for the improvements we can make. We will continue to pursue corporate donations, grants, and other opportunities that will help us forge ahead and and build upon the foundation we have already developed.

If you feel led to make a contribution now or in the future, please click on the link below to donate safely and securely using Paypal. All donations are 100% tax-deductible. Also, consider checking with your employer to see if they will provide a matching donation. Be assured that we will make good use of the funds by investing in technology that will create an atmosphere of interactive learning for Westview students for many years to come.
