New Legislation

posted ‎‎21 Nov 2009 08:58‎‎ by Vaughn Tiller   [ updated ‎‎21 Nov 2009 09:04‎‎ ]

New legislation passed by central government recently and coming into force early in 2010, will mean that any child or
vulnerable person’ will have to be accompanied by their parent or guardian at all times when attending our club.

Whether training a dog or not.

"Out of your comfort zone" The Alan Bray weekend 17th & 18th October 2009

posted ‎‎22 Oct 2009 00:24‎‎ by Vaughn Tiller   [ updated ‎‎22 Oct 2009 00:27‎‎ ]

Firstly, a big "thank you" to Alan and Jayne Bray.
Alan's enthusiasm kept him (and the morning trainees) working for so long he was only left with half an hour for lunch!

Alan's stated intention was to take us all out of our comfort zone - and after an initial evaluation period he did just that.  A widely spaced curving course that presented a different view depending on whether you were a dog or a handler soon got us all thinking!  As with most of the challenges he presented, everyone got something different out of it - sometimes tips or individual tuition that solved problems on the spot, other times ideas for further practice over the winter.  The weekend finished with a course that was back in our comfort zone; which made us all feel good and at the same time emphasised the value in pushing the boundaries during training.

I'm sure that everyone will also join me in thanking Jackie for arranging the weekend and for the huge amount of work and effort put into making it a success.  Also, a big thank you to David for the use of his field!  In fact thanks to all who helped, jump painters, bakers, tea brewers and anyone else that I may have missed!

5 Rivers Ipswich

posted ‎‎29 Sep 2009 08:45‎‎ by Vaughn Tiller   [ updated ‎‎15 Oct 2009 04:02‎‎ ]

"Well, that's another competition over.
Many members attended the '5 Rivers' competition this last weekend (26th and 27th September) at Ipswich.
Once again, the sun shone on the righteous and we were lucky enough to enjoy two glorious September days which necessitated the use of sun hats, sun tan lotion and the purchase of ice cream cones!
Generally it was a very happy event for those members attending - with the usual highlights and some occasional lowlights.
For some the attendance was as familiar as breathing whereas for others enjoying first time competition at a KC event, it was more stressful than taking the 11+ (hence the lack of photographs).
Clear round rosettes came quick and fast and were worn proudly by members as of course were the rosettes we won when our dogs were placed.
I don't yet have a full list of results but from memory our tally included at least one 2nd Place, 3rd Place and 7th Place.
Pretty good going at an event with hundreds of competitors in each class.

Many thanks to our brilliant trainers, who give us unending support, teaching and advice (especially to Kelsey and Jacqui).
Well done all"

20th September 2009

ACE & WSAC had a joint competition on a sunny Sunday in September, in aid of SESAW.

Two rings were on the go from 9.30 until around 2.30.

And 15 classes were up for grabs, including a ‘pairs class’, complete with a black fuzzy hat, Thanks Mel!

ACE ran the agility ring with WSAC running the jumping ring.

This inaugural event was well attended by competitors from both ACE & WSAC and even a few spectators too, I might add.

Many of the handlers had not been in a competition ring before, and there were more than a few nervous faces strolling around.

Certainly the guys from WSAC hadn’t run a ring before.

But it all went very well.

Quite a few photos were taken on the day and some of them have been posted on the 'Photos' page.

To round up the day a very informal BBQ was enjoyed by many.

In the next post I will endeavour to publish the results if they are still available.

And finally, those of us who attended this the first of many such events would like to say,

'A HUGE thank you to those two ladies who put so much effort into making the day a total success both for the handlers with their dogs and of course SESAW'
