Days of Special Interest

For all enquiries about Days of Special Interest please telephone 01984 667391

Each year we organise two Days of Special Interest to allow members to pursue a topic in greater depth.  This often takes the form of two hours in the morning and one and a half hours in the afternoon with a delicious sandwich lunch and a glass of wine.  It is a good way of meeting other members as well as studying a subject in depth..

Visit to Rodmarton Manor and Cheltenham

The Study Day in March provides an excellent introduction to this visit,as Rodmarton Manor is a unique example of the Cotswold Arts and Crafts style.  After his marriage, Claud Biddulph wanted a house in the style ofRuskin and Morris and so commissioned Earnest Barnsley to design and build Rodmarton. It took 20 years to complete. The present owner, Simon Biddulph, will give a guided tour of the house. The garden too is arranged in a series of rooms in the Arts and Crafts style.
We shall travel to Cheltenham for lunch and the visit the museum, which has a world-renowned collection relating to the Arts and Crafts movement, as well as items on the history of the town and Edward Wilson who was on Scott's expedition to the South Pole.

The cost of the day will be £25 inclusive of entrance fees and guides, but excluding refreshments. Coffee will be available on arrival at Rodmarton at a cost of £2.50. (Please say if you would like coffee when applying for a place on this visit.)
The coach leaves Hankridge bus stop, near Sainsbury's, at 8.30am and we return to taunton at about 7.30pm.
