We want people of all ages and abilities to enjoy and learn about the woods. As well as our volunteer days we organise regular events. We also run activities for local schools.
As part of the Keep Scotland Beautiful spring clean campaign , 24 local volunteers donned gloves and wielded litter pickers on 31 3 12 to clear up the southern section of the woods. A mountain of rubble and 16 large sacks of dumped rubbish were cleared. Cathy Martin, East Dunbartonshire Council’s link officer for Keep Scotland Beautiful, supported the event and arranged prompt collection of the rubbish within 24 hours.
Chairperson of the Woods Group Emma Sheppard said "we aim to run clean up events once a year, and are delighted again at the support of E.D.C. and locals. It is great that clear outs are getting easier as many local people now collect litter on a regular basis as they enjoy walking in the woods. By building up volunteer hours at the Spring Clean and other activities it has been possible to make strong successful bids for funding to organisations such as WIAT (Woods in and around Towns) and Central Scotland Green Network" The south part of Cairnhill woods border onto Glasgow but are owned and managed by East Dunbartonshire. If you see flytipping in the woods you can contact Cathy Martins team on 0141 5788814 or via the E.D.C website.
