Today my training mate Austin and I had the opportunity to join approximately 30 other kettlebell enthusiasts in Perth, courtesy of Rick Ravensdale at Australian Kettlebells, to spend 5 hours with Kettlebell officianado Mr Steve Cotter. The day commenced with an introduction by Rick & a great warm up by Steve that included some mobility drills that i hadnt seen before Steve then took us through a challenging session of timed sets of swings, cleans, snatches, presses, jerks & push presses. We were also treated to Steves signature move - the pistol table jump plus a couple of reps of 2 x 32 2 hands anyhow and a 2 x 32 TGU. Whilst these were amazing feats of strength and were awesome to see first hand the things that struck me the most were Steves knowledge of strength & conditioning, his professional delivery style and his attention to detail. Ive been using kettlebells for around four years now and like to think that I have reasonable technique but when you see & listen to guys like Steve it makes you realise that this training modality is one that may never be mastered, there are always new things to learn. Steve was also a very humble guy and very much the gentleman The day was well worth the money and the two hour drive So thanks to Rick @ AKB for getting this thing off the ground, Steve Cotter for making the effort to come to Australia (and more particularly WA), Jason Donaldson at Ultimate Crossfit Perth for organising an excellent venue and Cam from AKB for taking heaps of videos. Oh and all the other enthusiasts cause if you all hadnt fronted it wouldnt have happened Keep training hard & Feel the Heel Some snaps of Steve doing his thing (apologies for the quality they dont do the feats justice) And just to prove i was there - Thats me, The tall guy with bad hair |
