March 21 st Garden meeting and training

March 1st - It's time to purchase your tomato plants and pepper plants. Visit the Urban Harvest website www.urbanharvest.org Click on Gardening Advice, then Vegetable Gardening, then Seed Recommendations for the Houston Area. Listed there are the tried and true vegetables along with the varieties that have been proven successful in metro Houston. Also listed is the supplier of each variety so you will know where to get the seeds.

Southwest Fertilizer or Wabash Antique and Feed on Washington Avenue have tomato plants.   Other things to grow in the spring are bush green beans (Contender is an excellent variety sold at both stores), summer and winter squashes, okra, sweet potatoes, chili and sweet peppers, eggplants, cantaloupe (Ambrosia only), corn, cucumber, southern peas, arugula, lima beans, basil.
